Kurt Ofer, Track Sections (2012)
It usually starts with Google Image and this was no exception. Even though I had been in the building many times, I realized that I could not assemble all of these experiences into a fundamental understanding of how the building massing worked. I entered any order and combination of the terms Grand Central / Station / Drawings / Axonometric. I like to do transparent watercolors in which the entire building is represented in one image. Once I understood how the tracks interface with the building volume, it was more or less by accident that I arrived at the concept of the track slicing vertically through the building.
